The tongue must flatten
like a child’s palm turned
open by a mother’s suspicion—

There must be nothing
there but appetite.

draw metal back against the taste
buds. As your mind
phantoms hints of blood
within flavors sought,
know you are not slit.

You taste the center
of something else severed.

Hay que aplanar la lengua, como

que no sea el apetito.
